about us
Our mission at Mantis Records is to create professional audio for the most reasonable price. Remember our clients are local musicians making their way into the music industry. That's hard to do when you can’t afford to record a quality demo. Not everybody's mommy and daddy can drop $5,000 on juniors 3 song demo to be sent off to L.A. never to be heard of again. So at Mantis Records we have trimmed the fat. We have stripped away anything that is unnecessary in the production of pure quality audio so our rates stay affordable. For example, a $2,000 mic is not always better quality than a $500 mic (especially if your engineer is well trained in the art of equalization). The more channels on a mixing console doesn't mean its better (it means it costs more) remember there aren't that many 20 piece bands these days, and most automation and signal routing can be done with the computer. Custom leather furniture doesn’t make you sound better. When your song hits the the top 40 you might want to treat yourself to a studio that has it, but for now cloth is good. Fancy decor factors into studio rates, why pay extra for something that has nothing to do with the outcome of your project.
However it is true, “you get what you pay for”.
The equipment we have is quality equipment
and we know how to use it very well.
At Mantis Records we use Protools for recording editing, mixing, and mastering. Protools is the leading industry standard tool for audio production in music and film & video.
Mitch Webb is the only working engineer/producer in the state of SC that is a certified protools operator in addition to a having a degree in sound design from The Savannah College of Art and Design. This points out a common misconception. Just because a studio has a lot of expensive gear doesn't mean they know how to use it.
Not to say that a person has to go to school to be a great sound designer, just hear samples of an engineers work before you spend the time and money to be recorded.
Comfort is another important element in the quality of your music. If you are nervous and uncomfortable it will show in your recordings. Mantis Records has created a relaxing, unintimidating atmosphere and will help you stay focused on your project.
At Mantis Records there is no charge for set-up or break- down. This gives you an advantage over other studios. This will allow you to spend more time on your project, and will insure that you have time to properly tune and be prepared. Remember, it can take almost an hour to set up and tune. We also offer a fixed rate. As long as your group exists you pay the same rates. even when studio rates change over time due to inflation.
We want to produce audio that professionals expect and locals can afford.
